Boyds, Maryland
Ever heard of Boyds, Maryland? Where is Boyds?
Where is Boyds, Maryland? Stay tuned to find out a little bit more about Boyds, why it's a great place for you to check out if you're looking to live in the Montgomery County, DMV area.
Boyds started off as a temporary community that was basically started because they were building the railroad, B&O. Right after the Civil War, they started building a railroad that went from Ohio all the way out here towards Baltimore. And basically they needed a temporary place to house all the people working on the railroad. So they started creating this little makeshift town called Boyds.
Boyds started off as very rural living. It was out in the middle of the country. It wasn't really close to all the “happenings” in the area, and it pretty much stayed that way until about the 1980s. Back in the 1980s, they decided that this is a place that they wanted to develop and build some homes there and make it more of a permanent situation than what it's humble beginning, started as. It's just a temporary place to house the railroad workers.
So where is Boyds? Well, it's sandwiched between Darnestown, Germantown, Barnesville to the north, right there around the corner. So it's not too far from everything that is Germantown, but it's also, once again, it's still a little more on the rural side of things based on where you're at in Boyds. It is right next to Germantown. So you do have all that great access to get onto 270, or 355, or Great Seneca Highway, and run you right down to the more happening places of Germantown, Gaithersburg, and Rockville.
When it comes to dining, there's not a whole lot there. Your location and access keeps you in close proximity to things such as Germantown or even Clarksburg. You're going to have the ability to go a very short distance to get to some of those places that you might be looking for, that you just can't find in Boyds.
Where do the kids go to school? Well, there's Spark Matsunaga, which is an elementary school. There's also a Ronald McNair Elementary School that kids are bused to as well from Boyds. For middle school, they're going to go to Kingsview Middle School. And then for high school, majority of the people who live in Boyds kids are sent over to Northwest High School. Based on where you're at, you might be shipped over to Clarksburg as well.
The good thing about shopping in Boyds is, once again, there's not a whole lot right there in Boyds, but you're a very short drive to the outlets up there in Clarksburg. And then you also have everything that is Germantown. So it's not really too bad. It's your home in the country, but you're still close enough to enough of the normal day-to-day amenities that Clarksburg or Germantown would have to offer you.
If you're big in outdoor recreation, then I think that this would definitely be a place for you to check out. Yes, it's very close to the South Germantown Recreational Park. You have all the stuff that's over there from adventure playground to the SoccerPlex. You also have the SplashPark which has mini golf and a driving range over there as well. You'll have walking paths, you'll have bike riding paths, you'll have places to ride horses.
So if you're looking for a place that's not very far from all the things that are happening in the area, but you also would like to be a little bit further from your neighbors and would like to have a little more privacy and some outdoor activities, Boyds is not a bad place to check out.
